About the Author


M.N. Srinivas (1916?1999) was the J.R.D. Tata Visiting Professor at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore. He was also a Fellow of the British Academy and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute, London. A towering figure in Indian sociology, Srinivas authored several classics, including Religion and Society among the Coorgs of South India (OUP, 2004) and The Remembered Village (OUP, 1998), works that continue to shape the field of social anthropology in India and beyond.
