Dr Surya S. Durbha

Dr Surya S. Durbha is Professor at CSRE, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB). Before joining IITB, he worked as an Assistant Research Professor at the Centre for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS), Geosystems Research Institute (GRI) and also held an adjunct faculty position with the electrical and computer engineering department at Mississippi State University (MSU).

Earlier, Dr Durbha worked as a Scientist at the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), ISRO, Govt of India. He received B.E. degree in Civil-environmental engineering and M.Tech degree in remote sensing both from Andhra University, India, in 1994, 1997, respectively, and Ph.D degree in computer engineering from Mississippi State University (MSU), MS, U.S.A, in 2006. At MSU, he researched and developed image information mining tools for content-based knowledge retrieval from remote sensing imagery and the retrieval of biophysical variables from multi-angle satellite data.

Dr Durbha has published over 80 peer reviewed articles, served on program committees of several internationalconferences including SSKI, SSTDM, and IGARSS, co-chaired sessions at various conferences, and has been an invited speaker for HPC, Geospatial technologies, and IOT training programs in various institutes. He is a manuscript reviewer for IEEE, Elsevier, Springer, and other high impact Journals. He organized the Distributed and Embedded High Performance Computing International symposium at IIT Bombay in 2016. He received the Excellence in Teaching award at IIT Bombay, and NVIDIA Innovation Award 2016 for his work in Image Information Mining and High Performance Computing (HPC). Dr Durbha also received the StatePride Faculty and Outstanding Research awards earlier at MSU.
